Boiling 75 hours of ink and color down to two minutes, Guillaume Cornet's latest large-format illustration, Parisian Neighbourhood, was captured in this stop motion time-lapse. After featuring his work on the blog, we knew we wanted to get a few cameras on his time-intensive process. Being Parisian himself, this piece was just beggin' to be made. His characters and creatures are a nod to countless personal experiences - making each of his pieces deeply rich with story and memories. His process described + pictures below.

Using a fine-tip pen on a 70cm x 50cm blank canvas, he put ink to paper for about 55 hours on this one. When done with illustration, he moves on to screen printing ten limited editions. When those dry, he invests another 15-20 hours of coloring on each of the ten limited prints - another 150+ hours. Cool process to read about. Even cooler to see unfold.

Parisian Neighbourhood is a reflection of my personal life experience as a Parisian - avoiding, on purpose, the usual Parisian landmarks and monuments. I wanted to create a piece that demonstrates the feel of Paris with the Haussmannian architecture and focused along the river, La Seine. I have always considered it to be the main artery of Paris - connecting everything together. The characters in this piece are based on some awkward and funny memories as well as classic Parisian buses and book stores along the river. -Guillaume Cornet

How ambitious has Guillaume gotten with his large format work? He wouldn't let me share pics, but he did just complete his 580 hour master piece - nine straight weeks of illustration. Makes you wonder how many .05mm pens he went through.
