Mel Christy’s illustration thrives on vibrant color and meticulous detail in a contemporary style.

Her ink and brush work is based in aestheticism, primarily influenced by botanical life and patterns in nature. She builds versatile surface designs with intuitive mark-making that are instinctively emotive.

Before Mel found her calling in surface design, her twenty-year career as a fine art photographer allowed her to develop a unique ability to capture raw emotion through expressive, bold portraits. Her love of strong compositions and expressive detail has made its way into her illustration work.

When she is not creating beautiful spaces and textiles, Mel enjoys long bike rides, hanging with her teenage son, and walking her boxer, Guthrie. She currently lives in Portland OR.
