Nova T. Baker is a self taught sketch artist who fell in love with the challenge of painting and mixed media presented to her while receiving a B.A. in Art/Visual Communications. When Nova creates she enters an altered state of being, “It’s just me and the medium”. For her, the best part of creating is using color as a form of expression. Creating mixed media works, provides an outlet to visualize what is difficult to verbalize. Nova explores the themes of shared torment in her expressive afro-futuristic portraits. Displayed in these pieces are universal feelings of sadness, anguish, disquiet, introspectiveness, happiness, and being plain pissed off, that are shared by women of all colors.

Connected, free, liberated, is how she feels while creating these pieces. “It’s cathartic.”
