Chery Holmes

Chery Holmes has been offering her depiction of the world through artwork images since the 1970’s. Like one of her more recent works titled: The citizenM Hotel, Chery sees herself as an outsider in this world, looking in through a large grid of glass on all sorts of activities and images that impact her creative imagination. Chery’s sneak-peek view also captures innumerable working materials of all shapes and colours suitable to the expression of her favourite exalted moments in time. There are occasions when Chery sees mostly innocence and peace, then other moments when the world is akimbo, and, of course, there is the presence of pain and struggle and conflict as people are exposed in their efforts to grapple with life.

Chery has not shortened the length of the lens through which she views the beauty and consequent frailty of this world - without one there is not the other - and she wishes to enchant and amuse and stop-short the viewer with her multi-faceted take on some of what it is like to be alive and sensitive and visually astute to the many contradictions in this world. To be truly alive is to never be bored, to be truly alive is to be keen and ambitious about life’s absolute beauty, to be truly alive is to offer creative interpretations and to never walk about with one’s eyes half closed. Chery wants you to join her in the journey of this incredible life.

Chery was one of the founding members of Powerhouse Gallery (the first feminist gallery in Canada). Her images have been featured in several publications including Galerie, Girlfriends, Decormag, Canadian Women's Studies, Somerset Studio Gallery, Design Magazine and on the cover of The Gay & Lesbian Review Worldwide. They have been used as cover design art for eight novels. She has also created logos for companies such as General Woods & Veneers Ltd., Black Olive Productions and Flying Colors Life Coaching. Her work has been purchased by interior designers to be displayed in their clients' homes. Several of her illustrations have been licensed and my photographic images have been purchased for use by card companies such as Hallmark Canada.

At this time Chery is hard at work both writing and illustrating a children’s book on the adventures of canine tourists in New York City.
