Ben Patterson, born 1982 in the United States, is a master of chalk pastels who currently resides in Pittsburgh, PA. Unlike other chalk pastel artists, he seeks to push the medium past the impressionistic landscape to a more contemporary context. His works bring together the modern grunge of society with imagery of animals, plants, and humanoid figures. Patterson’s figures represent the unbiased human role of the narrative so that all may experience a familiarity with the works.

Patterson’s pop surrealist style mixed with his phenomenologist ideology produce sympathetic imagery that evokes stories within all of us. In the past four years, he has had the honor to partake in over 25 different exhibitions. Patterson’s work has been shown at a community exhibit hosted by the Smithsonian, group work at the Museum of Outdoor Art and Center for Visual Arts in Colorado, the state capitol building in Denver, and most recently a group show at The Gallery Four in Pittsburgh. Ben Patterson’s paintings have been collected by both private collectors and public organizations.
