Hola! My name is Juliana Alonso and I founded Atypicus, an art, illustration, and surface pattern design brand inspired in the culture, beauty and colors that come from my homeland country of Colombia. Tired of my culture being promoted worldwide via unfortunate events and history, I decided to dedicate this space to celebrate not only Colombian culture heritage but also latin culture, color, food, its people and beauty. I hope to bring the happiness that invades our culture into the work I am sharing here with you.

I am originally from Bogotá, Colombia — a city in the mountain valleys of the Andes in South America — I’ve since made a home in Houston, Texas. This transition as an immigrant has sparked an enduring passion for the concept of home and a need to continuously explore and express my roots. Daily, as I work and reflect on my pieces, they serve as a connection to the moments that matter most in my life. They give me strength in rough times and keep me grounded and connected to my roots, family, and homeland.

I spend most of my free time with my rock, Shawn, a proud Texan who photographs, approves and wraps projects upon request, painting, learning about art, and pretending to be a couch for one or three rescued cats that boss me around.

I love traveling and fruit is my ice-cream!

Hola! Soy Juliana Alonso, artista fundadora de Atypicus, en donde puedes encontrar ilustraciones, patrones sin fin y arte inspirado en la belleza, cultura y colores de mi país natal (mi tierrita querida), Colombia. Cansada de ver montones de camisetas y objetos alusivos a los conflictos que nos han hecho famosos en el mundo negativamente me decidí a crear inspirándome en el positivismo y alegría que también son parte de nuestra cultura latina.

Nací en Bogotá, Colombia, — una linda ciudad en lo alto de los Andes. La vida me trajo a Houston, TX desde el 2003, lo que me ha llevado a sentirme muy conectada con el concepto de “casa, tierra y hogar” y a estar expresando mis raíces continuamente. Por lo general mis creaciones me conectan con los momentos mas importantes de mi vida, dándome fortaleza y haciéndome sentir conectada con mi familia y mis raíces.

Paso la mayoría del tiempo con mi compañero de viaje, Shawn, un Texano a mucho honor, que siempre me ayuda en todo. Me gusta mucho pintar, aprender sobre arte y diseño y hacer de sillón para 3 gatos adoptados que mandan en nuestra casa.
