Hello! My name is Autumn. I’m from a small, rural town, 45 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. I have a BFA in Fine Arts from Slippery Rock University. My concentrations were graphic design, painting, and drawing. I also have a MBA in International Business and Management Information Systems from Point Park University.

Outside of my inherited talents, I derived my creativity from different influences. One of them is basic shapes: squares, rectangles, triangles, circles, and ovals. Another is lines: straight or curvy, heavy or light. A third influence is emotion: happy, sad, shock, etc. Abstract expressionism evolves from these influences.

People have also influenced my artistic creativity. They include several artists: A. My Slippery Rock University professors: Glen Brunken, Jon Shumway, Dr. Kurt Pitluga, Akiko Katani, Meyong Park, Tom Como, Dr. Richard Wukich, Robert Bruya, Mike Changnon, Kate Mickle, and David Weber; and B. Other artists: Piet Mondrian, Anges Martin, Wassily Kandinsky, Lucio Fontana, Karel Appel, Georgia O’Keefe, Mark Rothko, and Marcel Duchamp.

It is easy for someone to overlook the beauty of a shape or a line, in any and everything in life. In our society today, we are busy running from here to there and don’t take the time to see the simplest forms and colors that make up our world. Our bodies, phones, cars, food, drink, books, etc. are made up of the very basic and simple.

Interaction is also important. How one interacts with people, places, things, etc. in life creates emotion and atmosphere. I like different shapes and colors. I like to play with them and see how they communicate. Is there synergy or not? They have to find their fit like in any relationship. Emotions play a part in all aspects of life and can affect how persons, places, and things fit with one another.

My abstract artworks in general:

The mediums I like to use in my work include: acrylic paint, paint brush, canvas (usually any size up to 24”x36”), cloth, film, photo paper, 35mm camera, digital camera, paper, sketch books, pen, ink, pencil, crayon, pastel, chalk, charcoal, and other materials. I like to use these mediums in different genres: painting, photography, drawing, graphic design, design, and sculpture. The mediums and genres are reflective of my feelings and perspectives of what I want to convey.

My real-life artworks in general:

As with my abstract artworks, I use similar mediums and genres. My subjects are different, however. People, nature, and architecture are my usual subjects. The majority of my real-life artworks utilize film, photo paper, 35mm camera and/or digital camera in regular or digital photography. It is easier to capture my feelings with these mediums and genres than others.

For the most part, my artworks express who I am, where I am, and what I have during the time I create them. I utilize what is in my collective. In this way, I explore the simplest units of life and relationships, and share them with others.
