Here's a detailed pic of my piece "I'm Your Lap Dog". It is acrylic, Indian ink, collage on wood in an antique frame. 14.5 x 17.5"
I chose the German short-haired pointer whose hunting prey is usually the ring-necked pheasant. It usually hunts the males, but I wanted to use a female for the piece so I could indulge myself in panting a fancy Victorian sitting dress.
The roles are reversed in this piece as the dog is now submissive to its new owner/former prey. In most of my recent work I have used organic line work to represent bird songs. This piece uses this symbol to represent the voices of the dog's past victims speaking down from the heavens in support of the spirit lady-bird in the chair. I wanted the piece to be reminiscent of pet/owner portraits seen in the time period of the clothing, but with a Umana twist :)
